Overview
Ute Tribal Enterprises is hiring a skilled Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee financial operations across multiple tribally owned business units, including fuel, retail, food service, recreation, and more. This on-site leadership role is responsible for advanced financial planning, budgeting, accounting oversight, reporting, and strategic growth in partnership with the CEO. The ideal candidate will be CPA-certified, experienced in managing multi-entity finances, and confident leading teams across diverse business sectors. Knowledge of tribal enterprise structures and governmental compliance is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate all accounting functions within each business unit
Prepare and oversee financial reports, budgets, cost analysis, and year-end audits
Ensure compliance with GAAP, audit standards, and 504 funding guidelines
Provide monthly financial statements and closing entries
Supervise accounts payable, receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and internal controls
Collaborate with the CEO and business managers to improve financial performance
Review or develop business plans across units
Train and support internal accounting personnel
Evaluate financial procedures and implement improvements
Respond to inquiries, handle complaints professionally, and prepare documentation
Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Great Plains preferred)
In-depth knowledge of accounting, budgeting, audits, and business development
Experience working with tribal governments or Native-owned businesses is a plus
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple business operations
Strong leadership and team training capabilities
Confidentiality and professionalism required
Required Experience & Certifications
Master’s degree in Accounting or related field
CPA certification required
Supervisory or multi-business finance experience preferred
Valid Driver's License and eligibility for Ute Tribe driver authorization (clean driving record)
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
3-month probationary period required for performance review
Work Environment
This position is in-person, with work conducted primarily in an office setting and occasional field visits to enterprise locations. Candidates must be willing to work flexible or extended hours as needed.
